How to root OnePlus 6 and install TWRP recovery

If you have OnePlus 6 company’s latest flagship smartphone and want to root it and install TWRP recovery than you are at right place. Here in this article, we are going to cover how to root OnePlus 6 and install TWRP custom Recovery. Just follow the article, step by step to root OnePlus 6 on Android Oreo and install TWRP recovery on it.

A Chinese smartphone manufacturer, OnePlus unveiled its another flagship smartphone to compete with $1000 flagship phones at half of the price, OnePlus 6. OnePlus comes with a 6.28-inch Optic AMOLED display with 1080 x 2280 pixels resolution and offers 19:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by Dual Quad-core Qualcomm SDM845 Snapdragon 845 processor under the hood along with Adreno 630 GPU for better graphics experience.

OnePlus 6 comes in 6 GB and 64 GB internal storage while there is another model that comes with 8 GB of RAM and128/256 GB. Unfortunately, there is no micro SD card slot on board.  It has 16-megapixel main and 20-megapixel camera sensors on the back side. On the front side, there is the 16-megapixel camera for selfies and video calling.

The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box along with Oxygen OS running on top. It is packed with Non-removable Li-Po 3300 mAh battery along with Fast battery charging 5V 4A 20W (Dash Charge).

PRE-REQUISITES

  • Make sure your device charged up to 70%.
  • Make sure your device bootloader is unlocked.
  • This tutorial is only for OnePlus 6. Don’t try it on others devices.
  • Make sure to take a complete backup of your device.
  • Setup ADB and Fastboot.
  • Make sure you have installed proper drivers on your PC or Laptop for the OnePlus 6.
  • Enable your device USB debugging and OEM unlock.
  • Open Settings> About device> Software info on your OnePLus 6.
  • Now scroll to Build number and tap it 7 times.
  • After tapping the Build Number 7 times, you will see a message “You are now a developer!” or “Developer mode has been enabled”.

  • Download Magisk
  • Download Super SU

How to install TWRP Recovery on OnePlus 6

  • Download the TWRP zip file from the link mentioned above and rename it to recovery.img and transfer it into the ADB and Fastboot folder.
  • Now open the Command prompt in ADB and Fastboot folder by the press and hold the shift key and click the right button of the mouse.

ADB Fastboot folder

  • Connect your device to PC or Laptop via USB cable.
  • Write the following command to boot your device into Bootloader mode.

adb reboot bootloader

  • Now, write the following command.
fastboot devices

  • If you see the alphanumeric number with fastboot beside, then your device is connected successfully.
  • write the following command

  • After complete, reboot your device.
  • You have installed TWRP Recovery Successfully on your device.

How to root OnePlus 6 via SuperSU

  • Download the SuperSU zip file from the link mentioned above and transfer it to your device internal storage.
  •  Disconnect your device from PC or Laptop.
  • Now reboot your device into recovery mode by press and hold volume down + power key together for some time.

TWRP recovery mode

  • Tap on the install and select the SuperSU zip file.
  • After installation complete, go back to the main menu and reboot your device.

How to root OnePlus 6 via Magisk

  • Download the Magisk zip file from the link mentioned above and transfer it to your device internal storage.
  •  Disconnect your device from PC or Laptop.
  • Now reboot your device into recovery mode by press and hold volume down + power key together for some time.

TWRP recovery mode

  • Tap on the install and select the Magisk zip file.
  • After installation complete, go back to the main menu and reboot your device.
